Lori is in surgery

  • Somewhere between 7:30 and 8:00am, Lori is being prepared for surgery.  After a quick hug and kiss, I was not allowed to follow her to where they were getting her ready.  So I hunker down in the waiting room and the cafeteria for the long (four hour?) surgery.  I have plenty of time to pray for her.

  • At 10:30am, I'm notified that the surgery is underway.

  • At 12:45, the surgery is done and Lori is now in post-op, for observation.

  • The doctors say both surgeries (Lori's and Marie's) went well.

  • In about an hour or so, they will put her in a room and I'll be allowed to see her.  Most likely the drugs will not have worn off yet.

  • After waiting for a long time, I saw her for about 30 minutes.  She will be held in observation for at least 24 hours and will be heavily medicated.  Because she needs to be given immunosuppressants to suppress any rejection of the kidney, her immune system will take a while to adjust.  They will be making sure that there's no infection, bleeding, or any other complications, so she will not be able to take visitors until Sunday.
